From the Santa Cruz promenade, and crossing over to the island, where the beautiful castle is the headquarters of the Centro de Extensión Universitaria e Divulgación Ambiental de Galicia (CEIDA; don’t miss it!), you will have the opportunity to observe numerous species. Look out for the guano-stained rock lagran on the right side of the bay. It is called O Corval, and it is the favourite innkeeper of the cormorants in this area. At low tide, look out for the beach and rocky outcrops, little sandpipers, little egret and reidora gulls, headland gulls, cana, sombría, argéntea and patiamarilla, as well as Atlantic gulls. And flying over the waves, black-footed tern.
