The head of the Royal Zarapito is quite uniform in color. The plumage is yellowish brown with a design of thin, dark veins. The most characteristic of this bird is its very long curved bill (being longer even in the case of females).
In winter they can be found in coastal areas such as marshes and estuaries and even in flooded meadows. In the breeding season it is customary to go inland in the search for lagoons, remnants of rivers or squat areas.
